Following further confirmation of African Swine Fever (ASF), the protection zone in the Bergstraße district has been expanded again. "The current further expansion of the existing restricted zone II is due to a positive ASF case in Hemsbach," said the official in charge of veterinary and hunting affairs, Matthias Schimpf. "With this expansion, all municipalities in the district are now entirely or partially within the restricted zone. The only exceptions are Hirschhorn and Neckarsteinach."

The district has issued an updated general decree regarding the control of African Swine Fever, which will be published on the district's website on Tuesday (13.8.) and includes the current delineation of the affected area and the control measures within the so-called restriction zone.

African Swine Fever was first detected in a wild boar in the Groß Gerau district in mid-June. The viral disease is incurable and almost always fatal for wild and domestic pigs. According to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, it is harmless to humans and other animal species.

The expansion of the restrictive measures is largely due to the concerning spread of African Swine Fever, as another positive case was recently identified in Hemsbach. Given this development, it's crucial to closely monitor and adhere to the new control measures outlined in the district's updated decree regarding African Swine Fever.
