- The process of dismembered body has begun

The trial into the clarification of the violent death of a man and the subsequent dismemberment in Northhorn has begun at the Regional Court of Osnabrück. The prosecution accuses the 55-year-old defendant of manslaughter.

Also charged is the man's partner, a 49-year-old woman, who must answer for charges including accessory. Both defendants stated through their lawyers at the beginning of the trial that they wish to speak during the main hearing.

The prosecution alleges that the manslaughter occurred on February 9 in the apartment of the Ukrainian defendant. In a drunken state, he is said to have gotten into an argument with the later victim, a 51-year-old man, and struck him repeatedly with a vodka bottle, causing severe head and upper body injuries.

Both defendants are alleged to have then used an angle grinder to dismember the body and disposed of the parts, wrapped in bags and cloth, in the Ems-Vechte Canal in Northhorn. Due to the state of the body, the exact cause of death could not be determined by the forensic medicine, said the public prosecutor.

The crime scene where the violent incident took place was reportedly in the defendant's apartment. After dismembering the body, they discarded the parts near The bridge in Northhorn.
