The Pope cautions against the implementation of AI in military capacities during a G7 summit.

The 87 year-old leader of the Catholics asserted during a speech at the G7 gathering that "a machine shall never choose to take away a human life." Comprising Germany, Italy, USA, Canada, Great Britain, France, and Japan, this is a forum for heads of state and government.

"AI is an incredibly powerful, captivating and alarming tool," stated the Pope. The emergence of AI symbolizes a "genuine cognitive-industrial revolution," he said, but its use brings considerable risks and allows for "greater disparity between wealthy nations and developing countries, as well as ruling and oppressed classes."

In the afternoon, the Pope arrived at the venue Borgo Egnazia in Apulian southern Italy by helicopter. This is a G7 summit first-time occurrence with the Pope present. The Pontiff intends to engage in long conversations with several heads of state and government representatives, including some from the US, India, and Ukraine. The two-day G7 meeting is primarily marked by debates about the Ukraine conflict.
