Contact person for conflicts - The police commissioner receives more complaints
At Berlin's Citizen and Police Commissioner Alexander Oerke, there have been approximately 300 new cases this year so far. For the entire year, he expects over 600 applications and complaints, Oerke stated in the Interior Committee of the Berlin House of Representatives. He attributed this "pleasing development" to the fact that his complaint office has become better known.
Last year, a total of 429 complaints were filed with Oerke. Of these, 174 concerned the police, and 255 related to administrative procedures. The Police and Citizen Commissioner is supposed to be an independent contact person for citizens in conflicts with the police or another authority. Oerke works on behalf of the House of Representatives and has been in office since August 2022.
This year, Oerke anticipates surpassing 600 applications and complaints in total, as mentioned in the House of Representatives. Despite the increase, he views this as a positive development due to higher visibility for his complaint office. If any individuals in Berlin have concerns related to police or administrative matters, they should consider contacting Oerke, their designated independent contact person.
