Procedures or Steps - The pay of firefighters is slated for review by the Federal Constitutional Court.
The Federal Constitutional Court is set to decide if the compensation given to officials of the Koblenz Fire Brigade was inadequate and hence unconstitutional. The Administrative Court of Koblenz stated on Wednesday that they'll submit two cases to the court. The Federal Constitutional Court now needs to rule on whether the pay was unconstitutional.
The Administrative Court points out that the pay debate relates to two firefighters from 2012 to 2021, who were categorized under groups A7 and A8. The Koblenz judges contend that the payment of groups up to A8 during those years infringed upon the minimum distance prohibition. This regulation demands that the basic security, as a state welfare benefit, and pay should be notably distinct.
The court also furnished a case study. In 2018, the basic security summed up to roughly 30,017 euros, while the A8 remuneration group received a gross income of 30,816 euros. This represented around 3,700 euros less than the required minimum distance, stated the court.

The review of firefighter pay by the Federal Constitutional Court involves the Koblenz Fire Department, specifically the cases of two firefighters who served from 2012 to 2021. The Rhineland-Palatinate Administrative Court will submit these cases, arguing that the payment to groups A7 and A8 during that period violated the minimum distance prohibition. If the Federal Constitutional Court agrees, it could lead to changes in the remuneration of the professional fire department in Koblenz, potentially resulting in adjustments to their payment structures.
