Weather - The onset of winter in pictures: Southern Germany drowns in snow
Heavy snowfall largely paralyzed the south of Bavaria on Saturday. In Munich, for example, more than 40 centimetres of fresh snow fell during the night, according to the German Weather Service. The airport in the Bavarian capital ceased operations and the main railway station was also closed. S-Bahn trains, buses and streetcars did not run. The Bundesliga match between FC Bayern Munich and Union Berlin was canceled. The situation in other regions of Upper Bavaria and parts of Lower Bavaria was similar to that in Munich.
There was also a lot of snowfall in Baden-Württemberg. In Stuttgart, the fresh snow caused trees to fall. Winter maintenance work is underway at Stuttgart Airport, but flight operations are running normally so far. As a spokeswoman said on Saturday, there were no disruptions or even flight cancellations in the morning. Everything is normal and within the usual range," she said. The airport assumes that it will remain this way for the rest of the day.
