The ongoing issue of Voss-Tecklenburg has also "weighed heavily"
The German national team players are relieved that the termination of Martina Voss-Tecklenburg's contract has put an end to the ongoing issue at the DFB. The German Football Association announced on Saturday that the national coach's contract, which runs until summer 2025, has been terminated with immediate effect.
"The most important thing for me is that she is well again, that she is recovering. It was the right step for her to take care of her health," said FC Bayern Munich's Linda Dallmann after the 2:1 in the Bundesliga top match against VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday.
According to Voss-Tecklenburg, the midfielder was already coached by her as a ten-year-old in the Lower Rhine team. The two therefore know each other very well. "This whole back and forth was an issue that put a bit of a strain on us as a team", because discussions kept coming up "and we as a team naturally want to have clear decisions, also with a view to the Olympics", admitted Dallmann.
Wolfsburg's Svenja Huth said on the subject: "It was important for us players that a decision was made quickly." Klara Bühl from FC Bayern also assessed the situation in the same way. "It was important for us that a decision was made. We can now look to the future. In Horst (Hrubesch), we have a great transitional coach."
The hanging game surrounding the 55-year-old, who was reported ill at the beginning of September, had caused a lot of unrest in the national team's environment in recent weeks. Hrubesch was appointed interim coach by the DFB before the two recent wins against Wales (5:1) and in Iceland (2:0).
"Now we'll see what Denmark and Wales bring. The decisive factor for me was that it was over. The analysis wasn't my job," said Hrubesch with a view to the upcoming games of the German women's soccer team and coming to terms with the World Cup debacle in Australia.
When asked whether the term "interim" could now be removed from the coach, Hrubesch said: "You can remove everything." However, he also emphasized that he had "not spoken at all" with the DFB beyond the Nations League games, which are about Olympic qualification for Paris 2024. "For me, it was about fulfilling this dream with the girls."
- Despite the termination of Martina Voss-Tecklenburg's contract, some women's Bundesliga teams, like VfL Wolfsburg and FC Bayern Munich, have expressed their thoughts on the matter.
- Linda Dallmann from FC Bayern Munich has a personal connection with Voss-Tecklenburg, as she was coached by her when she was just ten years old in the Lower Rhine team.
- The Bundesliga match between FC Bayern Munich and VfL Wolfsburg served as a backdrop, with Dallmann acknowledging that the ongoing discussions surrounding Voss-Tecklenburg had put a strain on the team, especially considering the Olympics.
