The Olympic Winter Games 2030 are awarded to the French Alps under conditions
The IOC under Thomas Bach's leadership had already expressed support for the bid of the French regions Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur and Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes in the previous winter. No other candidates were available on Wednesday.
Despite the government crisis in France, the assignment was still uncertain, as certain securities can only be guaranteed by the Prime Minister. President Emmanuel Macron had promised that France would fulfill its obligations.
France would thus become the fourth time to host the Olympic Winter Games, after Chamonix 1924, Grenoble 1968, and Albertville 1992. The Olympic Summer Games will begin in Paris on Friday for the third time after 1900 and 1924.
