"The new Team Bavaria": Söder appoints his new cabinet

Four and a half weeks after the state elections, the formation of the government in Bavaria has been completed with the appointment of the new cabinet. Elsewhere, soundings are still being taken, but in Bavaria the new government can already get to work, said Minister President Markus Söder (CSU) in his short speech in the state parliament on the new Council of Ministers. "This is the new Team Bavaria." The new cabinet is a mixture of continuity and further development, which also sends out a signal of stability in the current difficult times.

The cabinet still comprises 18 members. Eric Beißwenger from Swabia is new to the CSU in the Council of Ministers as Minister for Europe, while former Digital Minister Judith Gerlach is now taking over the health portfolio. The post was vacant as the previous incumbent Klaus Holetschek has been head of the state parliamentary group for a few weeks now. New to the cabinet is Martin Schöffel from Upper Franconia as State Secretary for Finance.

Joachim Herrmann remains Minister of the Interior, Markus Blume Minister of Science, Albert Füracker Minister of Finance, Florian Herrmann Head of the State Chancellery, Christian Bernreiter Minister of Construction and Michaela Kaniber Minister of Agriculture. Georg Eisenreich can continue as Minister of Justice, Ulrike Scharf as Minister of Social Affairs and Sandro Kirchner as State Secretary of the Interior.

The cabinet is completed by five politicians from the Free Voters: party leader Hubert Aiwanger remains Minister of Economic Affairs, Thorsten Glauber remains Minister of the Environment, Fabian Mehring is the new Digital Minister and Anna Stolz is the new Minister of Culture. Tobias Gotthardt is the new State Secretary for Economic Affairs.

In his speech, Söder explicitly thanked the previous Minister for Europe, Melanie Huml (CSU), who is no longer a member of the state government for the first time after 16 years in various roles. Söder also praised the work of the previous Minister of Culture Michael Piazolo (Free Voters) in unusually clear terms.

In his speech, Minister President Markus Söder acknowledged the departure of Melanie Huml from her role as Minister for Europe, as she is no longer a part of the Bavarian state government after 16 years. The new Council of Ministers, dubbed as "The new Team Bavaria," includes Eric Beißwenger from Swabia as the new Minister for Europe. Additionally, the Bavarian government, now led by Söder, will have a close working relationship with the Parliament, as reflected in Söder's address to the state parliament.
