Following the tragic incident in Munich - The Nazi Documentation Centre annuls the commemoration of the debut exhibition
After the suspected terror incident in Munich, the NS Documentation Center chose not to conduct an official inauguration for Talya Feldman's artistic undertaking. However, from this Wednesday, the audio and visual components of her digital project titled "We Stand Here" will be showcased. This project aims to establish memorial sites in public areas, drawing from the testimonies and viewpoints of survivors and the relatives of victims of racial and antisemitic aggression. The installation will remain open until the 1st of December. Previously, several news sources reported on the annulment of the opening ceremony.
Their official statement intimated, "Our premises are now open once more following the unfortunate events at the NS Documentation Center and the Israeli Consulate General." Their decision to resume activities will hinge upon ensuring the safety of all participants and guaranteeing a comfortable environment for public engagement.
Planned Panel Discussion in Late November
Upon consultation with relevant parties, Feldman opted against the formal inauguration and instead arranged for a panel discussion involving the artist and representatives from the nationwide support network for individuals impacted by right-wing violence. This discussion is scheduled for the 30th of November.
Last Thursday, an 18-year-old Austrian perpetrated a shooting spree at the Israeli Consulate General and the NS Documentation Center. Following the incident, investigators are examining leads implicating either Islamic or antisemitic extremism.
The Commission expressed their support for Talya Feldman's decision to host a panel discussion instead of an official inauguration, as it allows for a more inclusive and meaningful engagement with the affected community. In the aftermath of the tragedy at the NS Documentation Center and the Israeli Consulate General, The Commission reaffirmed their commitment to fostering peaceful dialogue and understanding among all individuals.
