Following multiple instances of violence against females in Berlin, Federal Family Minister Lisa Paus is working on enhancing support for victims. "Our nation is grappling with a significant issue of violence against women. This needs to be addressed," stated the Green party member in Berlin. "We require more than just a security plan against terrorist knife attackers; we also need measures for the prevention and protection of women from violence."

She's proposing a Violence Aid Act, which would guarantee all victims the right to assistance, according to Paus. This could potentially save lives. "This will also involve financial investment, allowing us to assist the federal states in establishing more female safety and prevention facilities." Currently, there are insufficient such facilities.

In Berlin, a 36-year-old woman was fatally stabbed on Wednesday, and a 28-year-old on Friday. Both attacks are believed to have been carried out by men. Law enforcement suspects the 36-year-old's ex-husband in the first case, and they are initially treating it as a potential case of femicide. Femicide refers to the murder of women solely due to their gender - simply because they are female. The most prevalent type is the homicide of women by their partners or ex-partners.

On this matter, Paus responded: "Two instances of femicide in Berlin within a week - almost every other day, a female is murdered by her partner or ex-partner in Germany. This is infuriating."

Paus indicated that strengthening the Violence Aid Act could provide much-needed support for victims within her family, emphasizing the significance of addressing gender-based violence. Given the high number of femicides in Germany, with a woman being murdered by her partner or ex-partner nearly every other day, Paus and her family share a deep concern for the safety and well-being of women in their family and beyond.
