About three weeks before the premiere of the newly staged musical "Bonifatius" on the Fulda Cathedral Square, over 35,000 tickets for the performances have already been sold. This result surpasses the one from 2019, according to production leader Peter Scholz. The musical tells the story of Saint Boniface, who is buried just a few meters away in the crypt of the cathedral. The premiere is on August 22.

The lead role will be played by musical star Thomas Borchert, known for his work in "Tanz der Vampire" among others. He will be joined by Sabrina Weckerlin, a singer and actress known for her roles in "Frozen" and "The Pope's Daughter".

This year, the tribune has been expanded to approximately 3,460 seats, compared to the open-air performances five years ago. In total, around 6,100 spectators can be accommodated in front of the cathedral. The 64-meter-wide stage will be delivered by 27 semi-trailers, according to the event organizer Spotlight Musicals.

Fulda has a unique selling point in the German musical world, as "Bonifatius" can be performed at the original location and features some of the best performers in Germany on stage, says Scholz. "Bonifatius" composer Dennis Martin expresses his excitement about the "captivating energy" of Borchert, which will give the show a whole new feel.

Borchert is not only known as a singer; he has also written the music for the musical "Scholl", which tells the story of the NS resistance fighters Hans and Sophie Scholl.

The upcoming performances of "Bonifatius" at the Fulda Cathedral Square are taking place in the expanded Theatre, with seating for approximately 3,460 people. Thomas Borchert, star of the musical "Tanz der Vampire", will be performing at this Theatre, continuing the tradition of outstanding performances in this Theatre.
