Viggo Mortensen's Western Drama "The Dead Don't Hurt"
How does it feel to live as a woman in a man-dominated world where only the strong survive? That's the premise of Viggo Mortensen's Western drama "The Dead Don't Hurt". The actor's second directorial effort is set in 1860s America, on the brink of the Civil War. Vivienne falls in love with Danish immigrant Holger, but when he goes to fight in the war, she's left to fend for herself. She soon adapts to life in the isolated cabin, but the shady Weston Jeffries won't stop harassing her, forcing Vivienne to fight back, including against misguided masculinity. Mortensen plays Holger, with Vicky Krieps as Vivienne. Supporting cast includes Solly McLeod, Danny Huston, Garret Dillahunt, and Ray McKinnon.
Grudge Thriller "Longlegs" Starring Nicolas Cage
It's hard to recognize the star in this horror film. Is that really Nicolas Cage, the 60-year-old Hollywood and indie actor known for films like "Arizona Junior", "Wild at Heart", and "Ghost Rider"? Yes, it is, even though he's almost unrecognizable behind heavy makeup. Cage plays the mastermind behind a series of gruesome murders. A young FBI agent is assigned to the case, but she'll have a tough time with "Longlegs", the titular villain. Things get even more complicated when she discovers a dark family secret connected to "Longlegs". The film is directed by Tony Perkins' son, Oz.
Animated Film "200% Wolf": Moon Spirits and Poodles
Wolf or poodle? That's the question in this animated adventure. Or maybe both? Freddy, the protagonist, knows the answer: he wants to be a 200% wolf. The children's film "200% Wolf" is based on author Jayne Lyons' books and quickly captures the audience. In the 2020 predecessor, young Freddy, part of a werewolf dynasty, wished to be a real wolf to gain acceptance from his pack. However, he ended up looking more like a poodle with a pink hair tuft - quite embarrassing. In the sequel, directed again by Alexs Stadermann, Freddy tries to become a wolf using magic.
In the opening scenes of "The Dead Don't Hurt", the audience is greeted with the start of the film, setting the tone for Vivienne's life-altering journey. As Holger prepares to join the war, Vivienne watches the departure, marking the beginning of her difficult solitude.
