New in cinema - The movie releases of the week
Forty years have passed since Gru, the former super villain, graduated from school. The once mischievous Maxime Le Mal, who was deeply humiliated by Gru during their school days, now has a family and enjoys a quiet life. However, a class reunion of the villain school changes everything. Even the wicked Maxime Le Mal attends and plots revenge, as he seeks to kidnap Gru's little son. "I, Gru 4: The Super Substitute" is the sixth story in the universe of Gru, which also includes two films featuring the mischievous, yellow Minions. The cheerful little creatures cause plenty of chaos and excitement - and good mood. Additionally, new characters are introduced, including the mysterious neighbor girl Poppy, who has moved in next door with her parents. As usual, the colorful animation adventure is star-studded. Oliver Rohrbeck voices Gru, Martina Hill is his wife Lucy, and Jens Knossalla voices the villain Le Mal.
Unconventional yet brilliant: "Leader and Seducer"
The film "Leader and Seducer" takes unconventional paths: Author and director Joachim A. Lang ("Mackie Messer – Brecht's Threepenny Opera") combines historical documentary footage with today's staged scenes and statements from victims of the Holocaust. The film, which leads from 1938 to 1945, focuses on Joseph Goebbels, the Propaganda Minister of Adolf Hitler's dictatorship. Meticulously, it shows how he relied on lies, betrayal, and brutality. He presented himself as an educated art lover, husband, and father behind all masks. But beneath them, there was nothing but murderous inhumanity. Goebbels is portrayed by Robert Stadlober ("Andrea lässt sich scheiden"). His performance is worthy of praise. The stylistically and actorially intense anti-Nazi drama, according to Joachim A. Lang, aims to "disarm the instigators of today." In the end, the question remains, why so many Germans followed the lies of the Nazis for too long. Each and every person in the cinema must find an answer for themselves.
"To the Moon" with Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum
Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum are the stars of this comedy that takes place against the backdrop of NASA's Apollo-11 moon landing in 1969. Johansson plays marketing expert Kelly Jones, who is tasked with improving NASA's public image. Cole Davis (Tatum) is in charge of the rocket launch. "When the White House declares the mission too important to fail, Jones receives instructions to stage a fake moon landing as a backup. And the real countdown begins...", according to the film's announcement, which was directed by Greg Berlanti.
