- The mood in the economy and the craft sector remains subdued
The mood in the economy and crafts sector remains subdued in Saxony-Anhalt. According to the Industry and Chamber of Commerce in Magdeburg for the north of the state, only a small proportion of respondents look optimistically at the coming months, while 42 percent of the surveyed companies expect a deterioration in the situation. For the supplier companies of the automotive industry, the tariffs on exports of Chinese cars could pose a new problem. Furthermore, the expansion of the truck toll is causing cost increases in the companies.
Especially in retail and hospitality, business expectations are pessimistic, according to the IHK. The expectations for the future in the crafts sector are also rather cautious, as reported by the Chamber of Crafts in Halle for the south of the state. However, the development of turnover was positive in the second quarter. 42 percent of the surveyed companies reported increasing turnover due to the seasonal upturn after winter, while 21 percent reported decreasing turnover.
Despite the positive turnover development in the second quarter, many companies in the crafts sector remain wary about the future. The potential impact of trade tensions on exports, such as the tariffs on Chinese car imports, is a source of concern for some supplier companies.
