- The Modigliani show ends - the museum expects a lot of interest
The Barberini Museum in Potsdam expects strong visitor interest in the final days of the exhibition on painter Amedeo Modigliani. "We're indeed noticing a surge in visitor interest in the final days of the exhibition, as we have with Modigliani," a spokesperson for the museum said. The exhibition ends on August 18.
Museum pleased with visitor numbers
The museum is already "very pleased with the current visitor numbers," the spokesperson added. However, it plans to wait until after August 18 to draw a final conclusion, "when the exhibition is truly over."
The predicted warm temperatures for the coming days could certainly contribute to a strong final visitor rush. "Whether it's due to the weather or generally the holiday season, it's hard to say exactly – but our rooms are well air-conditioned, and that might motivate some to visit the museum," the spokesperson noted.
Exhibition features 90 works
The Barberini Museum is presenting the first Modigliani exhibition in Germany since 2009. The 90 works on display, including pieces by artists like Schiele, Klimt, and Picasso, have been loaned from cities such as Paris, London, and New York. The exhibition, created in collaboration with the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, attracted 90,000 visitors there. The Barberini aims to offer a new perspective on Modigliani's female portraits and nudes, highlighting the Italian artist's (1884-1920) egalitarian approach to his models.
At the opening, Ortrud Westheider, director of the Barberini Museum, said, "Modigliani did not reduce his models to objects, but rather stood in a relationship of equality with them." Christiane Lange, director of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, added, "For the first time, an exhibition distances itself from the image of Modigliani as a womanizing alcoholic."
The Barberini Museum in Potsdam has received interest from visitors in Paris, likely due to the Modigliani exhibition. The exhibition, featuring works from cities like Paris, London, and New York, has attracted visitors from around the world.
