- The Legislative Assembly is convening a special session to discuss the aftermath of the stabbing incident.

Following the lethal knife attack in Solingen that claimed three lives, the Brandenburg parliament is scheduled to convene a special meeting on Thursday (9:00 AM) to deliberate on the potential implications. The AfD parliamentary group in Brandenburg requested this gathering. Post the attack, discussions have intensified regarding stricter gun control and enhanced expulsions. Minister President Dietmar Woidke (SPD) and Interior Minister Michael Stübgen (CDU) express reservations towards the new federal law favouring expedited returns, while Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) holds the responsibility for the states to consistently expel individuals with pending departure orders.

Subsequently, on Friday, three lives were lost and eight were injured due to a knife attack at a local festival in Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia. The primary suspect in this incident is a 26-year-old Syrian national who was slated for deportation to Bulgaria last year yet was not. The AfD faction advocates for severe actions, such as prohibiting asylum seekers, refugees, Ukrainian refugees fleeing war, and deportable and authorized foreign migrants from participating in public gatherings. Brandenburg will soon elect its new legislative assembly on September 22.

The Brandenburg Landtag, upon the AfD parliamentary group's request, is set to convene on Thursday to discuss the potential implications of recent events. Following the election in September, Brandenburg will be welcoming its new legislative assembly to the Landtag.
