Upcoming local polls - The leader of the CDU party anticipates triumph in the district council elections.

The leader of Thuringia's CDU party, Mario Voigt, is confident his party will achieve success in this weekend's elections for district administrators and mayors. Speaking after the release of preliminary results by the German Press Agency in Erfurt, Voigt stated that the CDU enjoys the people's trust in the region. Good prospects lie ahead for the CDU in places like Erfurt, Eichsfeld, Wartburg, and Soemmerda, where its candidates are expected to emerge victorious.

However, the CDU will have to fend off challenges from AfD candidates in several other districts. Newcomers within the CDU are also running, hoping to assume the positions once held by long-standing local politicians. The strong showing in these elections is seen as a positive sign for the CDU's ambition to regain power in the Thuringian state parliament on September 1st. Voigt believes the significant difference between his party and the AfD in the European elections in Thuringia is due to voters attempting to send a clear message to Berlin's traffic light coalition and the bureaucrats in Brussels.
