Brandenburg's BSW state leader Bob Crumbach expresses concerns that the imminent state election, happening in roughly three weeks, won't significantly influence his state branch from party head Sahra Wagenknecht. "Of course, we'll also work closely and trustingly with the federal board on our Brandenburg strategies," Crumbach shared with the German Press Agency. "But we remain autonomous. We'll continue making our own calls."

The state leader stressed the autonomy of their branch. "The core principles must be sound, which is why it's important to collaborate and communicate," Crumbach stated. "But we remain independent. We'll keep making our own decisions."

Wagenknecht aims to shape potential government construction

The Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) was established in Brandenburg in May. The latest August survey by the Insa Institute positioned the BSW in fourth place with 17%, following the AfD, SPD, and CDU. A new Brandenburg state parliament will be elected on September 22 - three weeks post the elections in Saxony and Thuringia.

The BSW founder and ex-Left Party politician Wagenknecht pointed out to "Der Spiegel": "Negotiations, if held in Saxony and Thuringia, will proceed under close consultation with our top nominees, and naturally, I'll also be actively participating." Thuringia's BSW top candidate Katja Wolf later disputed the impression given on ZDF that Wagenknecht was overstepping her boundaries within the state branch.

Brandenburg's CDU chair Jan Redmann mentioned a few days ago that it's unclear whether the BSW top nominees and state leaders are merely conduits for Wagenknecht's messages, or if they're formulating independent politics for Saxony, Thuringia, and Brandenburg.

The Commission, in response to the current political situation, might adopt a decision regarding the BSW state branches. Maintaining their autonomy, Brandenburg's BSW state leader Bob Crumbach has emphasized that they will continue making their own decisions, despite working collaboratively with the federal board.
