On the very first day of April, this new law came into effect and resulted in the release of one inmate. In 14 more situations, the penalties were indeed removed; however, this did not lead to the prisoners' liberation.
It remains uncertain how long it will take to assess all the necessary cases, the spokesperson for the Justice Ministry stated. The public prosecutors of Saxony-Anhalt are currently experiencing a tremendous workload increase. Before the cannabis legislation took effect, these officials had already begun to scrutinize cases and prison matters for any potential modifications.
