The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) leader Grossi visits Kursk, Russia, expressing grave concern over the situation nearby the nuclear power plant.

The close proximity of military operations to this location, merely a few kilometers or miles away, has made it a pressing concern," mentioned Grossi. In essence, it could be as straightforward as this: Steer clear of attacking a nuclear energy facility. As of now, this facility is functioning under conditions that are almost normal, he pointed out.

Grossi also admitted to being in regular communication with the Russian authorities. He has plans to visit Kyiv the following week for discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he shared. Maintaining a dialogue and communication is crucial in these situations, he stressed.

The International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) chief touched down in Kursk on Tuesday. According to a representative from the Russian nuclear agency Rosatom, Grossi is overseeing a team to evaluate the conditions at the power plant post Ukraine's sudden incursion into the area a few weeks prior.

Grossi had articulated his intention to conduct an 'independent' investigation of the situation in Kursk on Monday. He underscored that ensuring the safety of all nuclear power plants is of 'paramount importance' to his agency.

The nuclear power plant is situated approximately 50 kilometers from Kursk's regional capital. Upon the initiation of Ukraine's progress in the Kursk region on August 6, Grossi had issued a caution about the potential ramifications of the conflict on the NPP and urged 'all parties' to exercise utmost restraint.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had accused Ukrainian forces of attempting to attack the power plant the previous week. The IAEA reported receiving information from Russian authorities about debris from a drone being discovered approximately 100 meters from the facility.

"I'm 'aware of the effects of drones'," Grossi declared. He had also been presented with 'some of the debris' as well as 'evidence of the drone's impact'.

Since the onset of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the IAEA has consistently alarmingly about the possibility of a nuclear disaster due to the conflict, particularly around the Russian-controlled nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine.

Grossi firmly urged against any direct confrontation near the nuclear energy facility, stressing that it's crucial to avoid any form of 'Fighting' due to the potential catastrophic consequences. He further emphasized the need for peace and dialogue, stating that 'Maintaining a dialogue and communication' is vital in such situations.
