In the region of Saxony-Anhalt, a strict set of penalties for marijuana-related infractions has been implemented. A major emphasis is on consistently upholding child and adolescent welfare, as indicated by a representative from the Ministry of Social Affairs. As an illustration, fines of up to €500 may be levied for marijuana use in prohibited zones close to schools, nurseries, public sports facilities, or public children's playgrounds. Engaging in such activities in the presence of minors could result in fines of up to €1,000.
Previously, the "Mitteldeutsche Zeitung" revealed that fines could reach a significant €30,000, for instance, if an individual supports cannabis cultivation groups or takes part in promotional activities. "To maintain consistency in enforcement across different states, the Ministry of Health collaborated closely with Saxony, Thuringia, and Brandenburg in devising this penalty schedule," the spokesperson elaborated further.
The penalty schedule was unveiled in the Ministerial Bulletin on July 22 and has been in force since then. However, it remains unclear as to who will oversee these violations. The cabinet is yet to make a decision on this, the ministry spokesperson disclosed.
The implementation of these strict penalties in Saxony-Anhalt also aims to deter any form of crime related to marijuana, such as cultivation or promotion. Failure to adhere to these regulations can lead to severe consequences, as evidenced by the potential €30,000 fine for supporting cannabis cultivation groups or participating in promotional activities.
