- The impending disclosure of the choice regarding Neuer's DFB tenure is imminent.
Germany's national football team's sports director Rudi Völler has made a significant announcement about Manuel Neuer's future in the team. "There's definitely going to be a decision about Manuel before we announce the next squad, which is happening next week," Völler mentioned during the "Doppelpass" show on Sport1. Völler also emphasized that Neuer himself would be the one to break the news first. Given his role as the 2014 World Cup-winning goalkeeper, he should have the final say in what's to come.
Unlike Toni Kroos (34) and Thomas Müller (34), who announced their departures from the German team prior to and post the home Euro in the summer, Neuer, now 38, hasn't made a definitive statement. Kroos is now retired from international football, while Müller continues to play for Bayern Munich. Neuer's contract with Bayern runs until June 2025.
Völler once again acknowledged Neuer's world-class goalkeeping skills but also pointed out his current deputy, Marc-André ter Stegen (32) from FC Barcelona.
The final decision, however, lies with the national team coach, Julian Nagelsmann, according to Völler, "that's the coach's power." Nagelsmann had previously ruled out any major personnel changes following the Euro exit.
The German team's itinerary is set
Nagelsmann will assemble the team on September 2 in Herzogenaurach. The team had previously stayed and trained in the same location during the Euro.
The squad will be announced a week prior, the DFB announced. In the Nations League, Germany, placed in the top tier, will face Euro group opponent Hungary in Düsseldorf on September 6. Three days later, they'll face the Netherlands in a top match in Amsterdam. The other group opponent is Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The national team's coach, Julian Nagelsmann, holds the final power over Manuel Neuer's future in the National team, as he mentioned there might be a decision before announcing the next squad. Despite not making a definitive statement, Neuer, a key member of the National team due to his exceptional goalkeeping skills, should have a say in his future.
