Discusses his thoughts on the federal government's package of measures: Michael Stübgen, Interior Minister of Brandenburg's CDU.

- The IMC leader acknowledges that the proposed set of actions has minimal impact on the migration situation.

The head of the Interior Ministers' Conference, Mike Stübgen, criticizes the lack of effective actions in the proposed security package of the traffic light government to decrease the number of migrants. "The traffic light government remains idle in the crucial role of reducing migration waves," stated the Interior Minister of Brandenburg CDU on inquiry. "Every attempt to enhance deportations loses its significance if over ten individuals enter daily for every deportee."

Stübgen voiced his concerns about the proposed measures. "It's gratifying that the federal government finally acknowledges, after nearly three years, that its prior migration policy is largely inadequate," said Stübgen. "Some of the now proposed steps seem reasonable." However, a comprehensive evaluation can only be done once the planned legal adjustments are clearly outlined.

Stübgen proposed a ban on entry from safe countries.

The chairman of the IMK suggested that asylum seekers from safe third countries should not be permitted entry. "The implementation of Article 16a of the Basic Law, which states that individuals entering via a safe country have no right to asylum in Germany, would provide significant relief," said Stübgen. "However, the traffic light government lacks the courage to enact the necessary decisions."

As per the plans of the traffic light coalition, benefits for migrants who are the responsibility of another European state, and have agreed to accept them, will be reduced. Criminals should be easier to expel. Additionally, a general ban on carrying knives is proposed in long-distance buses and trains, at folk festivals and other large events. The package is a response to the knife attack in Solingen last Friday, resulting in three deaths and eight injuries.

Stübgen's proposal to ban entry from safe countries could potentially stem the flow of migrants entering Germany. Despite the proposed measures to reduce benefits for migrants and easier expulsion of criminals, the daily influx of migrants continues to outpace deportations, which dilutes their effectiveness.
