Aviation activity - The ILA is a significant trade fair held in the capital region.
Woidke mentioned the research facility of the German Aerospace Center in Cottbus, where they're investigating electric aircraft engines. The Holzdorf airfield by the border of Saxony-Anhalt is also crucial for the Bundeswehr; it's where the future stationing of the CH-47 transport helicopter is planned.
Wegner, Berlin's deputy mayor from the CDU, and Woidke expressed their support for maintaining the ILA at Berlin Brandenburg Airport in Schönefeld permanently. "We're thrilled (...) to have secured the ILA until 2030, and we want to keep it beyond that," stated Wegner. The event is a significant one for Eastern Germany.
During their tour, they paid a visit to the Berlin Mittelstand Astro- and Precision Mechanics in Adlershof as well as the satellite platform manufacturer Reflex Aerospace.
This year, the ILA's organizers anticipate approximately 600 exhibitors from around 30 countries. Various research projects and airplanes for both civil and military aviation will be showcased. The largest exhibitor is the Bundeswehr. Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) promises to inaugurate the show on Wednesday for the specialist audience. The area at BER is also accessible to all visitors during the weekend.
