- The Hirschhorn Castle undergoes a €2.8 million restoration project.

Following around six years, the renovation project at Castle Hirschhorn, situated in Hesse's most southern tip, has finally reached its completion. A spokesperson for Hesse's State Office for Construction and Real Estate reported that approximately 2.8 million euros were poured into the restoration of this heritage-listed property situated along the Neckar. The castle, its roof, facade, terrace, and access road all underwent significant renovation works.

The State Office is currently on the lookout for a new tenant to manage the hotel and catering operations in the Bergstraße district. As part of the modernization process, eight double rooms were renovated and upgraded. The building now boasts a restaurant, a banqueting hall, and two freshly renovated outdoor terraces.

Historic properties regularly receive substantial investments from the state. Presently, work is underway on the Veste Otzberg and Burg Frankenstein, both located in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district. The Veste Otzberg is estimated to reopen to the public in parts in spring 2025. As for the Burg Frankenstein, its completion is scheduled for 2028. Known for its Halloween-themed events in the past, it has undergone recent maintenance as well. The Stiftsruine Bad Hersfeld, Kloster Konradsdorf in Wetterau region, and the imperial apartments in Bad Homburger Schloss have also received some upgrades. According to State Palaces and Gardens Hesse, it is the sole surviving remnant of Wilhelmine residential culture in Germany.

After the completion of the renovation at Castle Hirschhorn, the focus shifts to the Veste Otzberg and Burg Frankenstein for rehabilitation work. The Veste Otzberg is expected to reopen to the public in parts following extensive rehabilitation work, which is estimated to be completed by spring 2025.
