The Hessian police are stepping up their efforts to combat burglaries in public areas, offering free consultations to citizens and implementing stronger security measures during the summer months. Interior Minister Roman Poseck emphasized the importance of citizens feeling safe in their own homes, announcing these measures on Tuesday. Additionally, advisors are providing tips on burglary prevention at various community events.

The Interior Ministry reported that the pandemic had provided burglars with more opportunities, resulting in almost 1000 more registered cases in 2023 compared to the previous year. Out of the roughly 5200 incidents, around half were classified as attempted burglaries.

While the number of actual burglary thefts was lower than in 2022, it was still below the pre-pandemic level (6768 registered cases). Compared to ten years ago (2013), the number of burglary thefts dropped significantly (10,795 registered cases). The police are utilizing a prognosis software to detect and prevent burglary sprees effectively.
