- The Head of State Extends Congratulations to Peter Maffay

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has acknowledged Peter Maffay, a renowned rock artist, as a "musical icon" and an "honorable man." Maffay has stayed true to his beliefs and has never wavered in his trust in humanity's goodness, the belief in transforming the world, love, and respect for others. The head of state expressed these sentiments in celebration of the musician's 75th birthday (August 31).

Steinmeier extended his birthday wishes to Maffay, who has topped the charts with hits such as "Du," "Und es war Sommer," or "Jetzt." He also recognized Maffay's social and political activism. Originally from Romania but raised in Upper Bavaria, where he resides presently, Maffay has aided disadvantaged and traumatized children through the Peter Maffay Foundation and by serving as the patron of the Tabaluga Children's Foundation. Many vulnerable children now have a promising future thanks to these initiatives, as Steinmeier pointed out. Maffay was bestowed with the Martin Buber Plaque in 2011. "I vividly recall the occasion where I had the pleasure of delivering the speech in your honor."

For his stance against antisemitism, xenophobia, and racism, Maffay was honored with the Buber-Rosenzweig Medal in 2018. Serving as a backer of the Amadeu Antonio Foundation, he aids in ensuring that we never forget the destructive consequences of racism and superiority complexes – and the tragedy that can occur when moral standards are systematically corrupted.

Furthermore, The German President commented on the current climate of hatred and mental sabotage prevalent in numerous areas. Anyone seeking a free and livable country must confront antisemitism and xenophobia in all its manifestations, he stated. "You have stood firm and continue to champion the vision of a better world, promoting understanding among nations and fostering tolerance through reconciliation."

Maffay's commitment to combating hatred and intolerance extends beyond music, as he is also a supporter of organizations fighting against antisemitism and racism. He understands that this is a crucial step towards creating a world where everyone respects others, regardless of their background.

In his activism, Maffay demonstrates that being a musical icon involves more than just creating popular music; it also includes standing up for what is right and encouraging others to embrace diversity and inclusion.
