The head honcho of PEN Center Germany, Jose F.A. Oliver, steps down due to health issues. A team has been established to find his replacement, as stated by PEN Center Germany in Darmstadt. No additional info about the departure was disclosed. Oliver bagged the presidency of this literary group back in October 2022.

Situated in Darmstadt, PEN Center Germany is recognized by the Poets, Essayists, Novelists acronym. With a century-long history, the association is committed to literature, free speech, and global understanding.

Getting into some internal drama in 2022, a second branch, PEN Berlin, was born. This was triggered by intense disagreements concerning the leadership tactics of the higher echelons within the literary crew. Internationally, over 140 such communities join forces under the PEN umbrella.

PEN Center Newsflash

Despite being based in Darmstadt, PEN Center Germany is part of the global network of over 140 PEN centers worldwide. Following Oliver's departure, there might be significant changes in the direction of this influential German literary organization, which has a rich century-long history and prominence in the international literary scene.
