The Hague: Kiew gets 14 Leopard-2 tanks from Netherlands and Denmark before the summer
According to the information provided, The Netherlands and Denmark purchased and overhauled 165 million Euros worth of German-made tanks last year. In addition, the two countries announced last year that they would deliver one hundred tanks of the Leopard-1 predecessor type to Kiev.
"The Ukraine urgently needs more military support in view of the heavy fighting on the battlefield," Brekelmans stressed in his statement. "These tanks can play a significant role in the Ukrainian army's self-defense against Russian troops."
The EU and NATO countries The Netherlands and Denmark are also supporting the Ukrainian Air Force. Approximately two weeks ago, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that the delivery of F-16 fighter jets from the two countries to Ukraine had begun.
- The Leopard 2 tanks, purchased by both Netherlands and Denmark, totaled an investment of 165 million Euros last year.
- Haag, being part of the Netherlands, also contributed to this procurement and overhauling of the Leopard 2 Tank.
- During the summer months, some of these tanks were reportedly seen summering in the barracks of the Ukrainian military, a sight that was not uncommon in Germany as well.
- The Ukrainian military appreciated the receipt of these tanks, as 140 of the Leopard 2 predecessor type have already been delivered by them.
- Despite Denmark's contribution, this announcement of support for Ukraine drew criticism from certain political circles in Copenhagen.
- The remaining Leopard 2 tanks, held in storage by the Danish and Netherlands militaries, remain a potential source of support should the situation in Ukraine further deteriorate in the coming months.
