- The Group Organization is taking measures against the incorrectly utilized parking area.

The Braunschweig Social Association is cracking down on individuals who park in designated disabled spots unlawfully, with a literal wake-up call. Drivers found breaking this rule in the future will find a message on their windshield, the group revealed. The message reads: "You've stolen my parking spot. Fancy my disability too?" During the first half of 2024, the Braunschweig city administration identified 1,794 such infractions, while the total count for 2023 was 3,445.

The reverse side of the postcard-sized notices provides an explanation for the significance of disabled parking spots. " mobility is crucial for wheelchair users, even in their vehicles," explained Reiner Knoll, the local head of the Social Association in Braunschweig. Participation in social activities on an equal footing can only be achieved this way. The message also includes: "Thanks for parking elsewhere next time."

Only vehicles with a blue parking permit, issued to individuals with a disability ID card bearing the 'aG' (severely disabled) or 'Bl' (blind) symbol, are permitted in disabled parking spots. To obtain this permit, one must submit an application.

The Social Association in Braunschweig strongly advises drivers to avoid parking in disabled spots without proper authorization, using their own vehicles as an example. Failure to comply with this rule may lead to receiving a notice on your car's windshield.
