The Alliance 90/The Greens consecutively maintained their leading position in Karlsruhe's municipal elections, although they experienced a minor decrease in votes, with the CDU and SPD showing marginal improvements. The AfD also made gains, challenging the traditional parties in Baden-Württemberg's local elections. Under the scrutiny of over 250 electoral districts, the CDU, SPD, and AfD ranked second, third, and fourth, respectively, while the turnout significantly increased from 2019. In this election cycle, the Greens still retained significant influence, but the dynamics of the local political landscape in Karlsruhe seemed to shift.

In the aftermath of the election results, various municipalities in Baden-Württemberg reported an increase in voters leaning towards parties such as the AfD, indicating a potential shift in political preferences. The SPD and CDU, traditionally the dominant parties in Baden-Württemberg, faced stiff competition from the AfD and the Greens in the recent municipal elections, prompting them to assess their strategies for future regional and national elections.

Following the local elections, political leaders in Baden-Württemberg are undertaking a comprehensive review of the voting patterns and shifts to strategize their 2024 municipal campaigns. The Greens, with their strong dominance in Karlsruhe and other cities, are assembling coalitions with smaller parties to push their agenda, while the CDU, SPD, and AfD are making significant efforts to regain their influence in the upcoming elections.

Beyond Baden-Württemberg, the AfD's substantial gains in various municipal elections have led many mainstream parties to reconsider their stance on controversial issues. Some politicians from the SPD, CDU, and Green Party have emphasized the necessity of dialogue and engagement with the AfD, stressing the importance of reaching out to voters who may be disenfranchised or support controversial views.

Consequently, the upcoming year will witness a fierce competition in municipal elections, particularly in key cities such as Karlsruhe, where the Greens maintained their leading position despite a decrease in votes. The CDU and SPD are aiming to seize momentum, while the AfD is focusing on expanding its reach in Baden-Württemberg and other regions, intensifying the political race ahead of the 2024 municipal elections.
