The urgency for the debate's shift is crucial, or else we'll unwittingly assist the autoritarian adversaries of our democratic rule of law, cautioned the Green politician. Regarding potential collaboration with the Union, Mihalic expressed, "We're open to dialogues concerning all substantial proposals that align with the constitution, fundamental, and human rights."

Green Minister Cem Özdemir challenged Merz's proposal to force asylum law adjustments with the Union's votes, despite opposition from the coalition party Greens in the Bundestag. "You're not governing beyond the Greens," the agriculture minister declared on Wednesday on broadcasters RTL and n-tv. "My preference would be to steer clear of party politics here."

Had the supposed attacker from Solingen's deportation been successful, "not a single law" would have required revision, stated Özdemir. The man was not located by authorities on the day of deportation - "why don't they come back the following day and deport him then?"

Implementing existing law now appears to be the priority, the agriculture minister further emphasized. "It's infuriating that we're perpetually discussing law revisions, yet we're neglecting to enforce the current laws."

Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) met with the Union faction leader and CDU chairman Merz at the chancellery on Tuesday morning. Merz proposed cooperation in tightening immigration policy. The CDU chief explained his aim to instigate law changes across factions during the next parliamentary session, starting from September 9. He expects a collective approach "with the coalition components that are willing."

The Federal Parliament should carefully consider any potential collaboration with the Union, given their commitment to aligning with the constitution and human rights. Despite opposing Merz's proposal, Green Minister Cem Özdemir stated that they are open to discussions within the boundaries of the law.
