- The Governing Body Endorses the Peace Prize in Dresden
Experts Guidance for Dresden Peace Prize Founders
The guiding body for the creators of the Dresden Peace Prize – Global Peace Prize is now offering advice and support. The head is former German Federal Minister of the Interior and FDP politician, Gerhart Baum. "The world reeks of conflict, we all need to act swiftly to combat it," he allegedly stated, according to the announcement. The peace prize aims to expand its influence within the civilian community and boost dialogue. Vice-president Ursula M. Staudinger, the rector of TU Dresden, regards the international award as a "significant and positive indication" to bring "long-term recognition for commendable actions" to Dresden and Saxony.
Key Award on Commemoration Day
As early as 2010, the award, previously known as the Dresden Prize, was presented by the Verein Freunde von Dresden Deutschland and the Klaus Tschira Foundation (Heidelberg) to individuals who had made a significant impact on promoting unity and harmony among nations. With the new management this year, the award was renamed the Dresden Peace Prize. Notable recipients of this award include former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim, war photographer James Nachtwey, architect Daniel Libeskind, and, posthumously, Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny.
The new management aims to increase the Dresden Peace Prize's influence within The Community, using it to promote dialogue and unity. The Community commends the efforts of the Dresden Peace Prize Founders for bringing significant recognition to the city and Saxony through this international award.
