Memorial in the Bremen Cathedral - The funeral for Werder manager Willi Lemke

A memorial service at Bremen Cathedral is planned to honor former Werder manager and Bremen senator Willi Lemke. The joint remembrance event by the club and the city is expected to take place on August 23, according to Martina Lange, head of the cathedral office. The news was first reported by the portal "Deichstube".

The long-serving football manager of SV Werder, former senator for education and the interior, and special advisor to the UN secretary-general died on Monday following a brain hemorrhage, his family announced. Lemke was 77 years old and one of Bremen's most well-known figures.

In January 2005, his close friend and former Werder president Franz Böhmert was also bid farewell at the cathedral. Around 1300 people attended the memorial service, including family and friends, the Werder championship team, Franz Beckenbauer, Uwe Seeler, and the entire DFB leadership.

The memorial service for Willi Lemke, as announced, will take place at Bremen Cathedral. This cathedral has also previously hosted a memorial service, in 2005, for Lemke's close friend and former Werder president, Franz Böhmert.
