Legislative assembly - The FDP parliamentary faction is amenable to a special session of the Interior Committee.

Recent findings about the police's mishandling of weapons have left the Interior Committee of the state parliament pondering whether to organize a special session next week. With the SPD and FDP expressing their support for this idea, parliamentary manager Guido Kosmehl of the SPD predicts a likely meeting. While Thursday is tipped as a potential date, it's the last day the lawmakers will convene before their summer break.

The State Audit Office came across "major safety concerns" during an assessment at the Police University. This stems from considerable disparities in their collection of weapons used for instruction. Firearms and non-lethal weapons are both involved, the report disclosed.

The opposition and the SPD faction have urged for a special Interior Committee session due to the next scheduled meeting in August. This process can be initiated by any three members of the committee, resulting in the coalition of black, red, and yellow parties (7) potentially starting the special session should no other forms of cooperation with the AfD occur. CDU's interior politician, Siegfried Borgwardt, confirmed deliberations on the topic on Friday.
