- The far right is again on the rise in Brandenburg

In the first half of 2024, the police in Brandenburg provisionally recorded 49 activities of the extreme right with neo-Nazi and racist connections. This was an increase of 21 events or 57% compared to the same period last year, according to the response from the Ministry of the Interior in Potsdam to a request from state parliamentarian Andrea Johlige (Left). Around 400 people were involved in rallies, info stands, and poster actions. The focus was on the municipal and state elections in Brandenburg in September. The small party "The Third Way" organized 16 activities, appearing in public the most frequently.

In the first half of 2023, around 90 people participated in the activities of the extreme right. This also included three song evenings and one concert. The police prohibited one song evening in advance. The events were also predominantly organized by the party "The Third Way". Social networks played a central role in mobilization, according to the Ministry of the Interior. The police filed four criminal charges, including violations of the assembly law and the display of unconstitutional symbols. Seven gatherings were against the asylum policy.

The asylum policy was also a central theme on seven events in the first half of 2024. The overriding motto at the info stands was also the municipal and state election in September. "The Third Way" appeared as the organizer in 36 of the 49 activities. Other events were organized by the parties "The Homeland", "The Right" and the "Identitarian Movement" via social networks. The police filed 14 criminal charges, including violations of the assembly law, incitement of the people and property damage. The events also included two song evenings and one concert.

The increase in extreme right activities with neo-Nazi and racist connections required a stronger police presence, resulting in the recording of 49 such events in the first half of 2024. During these events, the police had to intervene and file 14 criminal charges, including incitement of the people and property damage.
