- The expert investigates the roof collapse in Ratzeburg
Following the collapse of the roof at a supermarket in Ratzeburg (Herzogtum Lauenburg district), an expert today inspected the building again. A drone is also being used during the works, as stated by a police spokesperson. The expert is being supported by the criminal police and the fire brigade. However, results of the inspection are not expected today.
The building is closed due to the risk of collapse. According to police reports, there is still an acute risk to life in the immediate vicinity. Therefore, the area has been cordoned off and is being guarded by a security service.
Loud cracking preceded partial roof collapse
The roof partially collapsed last week, injuring 12 people. No one was found under the rubble as everyone was able to evacuate the building in time. Witnesses reported that the collapse was preceded by loud cracking on Tuesday afternoon. Customers and staff were then asked to leave the building immediately.**
The authorities have declared an emergency situation due to the unstable building condition. Due to the acute risk, the evacuated area remains cordoned off and continuously monitored.
