- The emergency department at Freiberg district hospital is undergoing renovations.
The District Hospital Freiberg aims to transform its Main Emergency Unit into a Comprehensive Emergency Hub (CEH) and instate a Pediatric Emergency Integration Unit. As reported by the hospital, leading this innovation in Saxony, this entails a structural reorganization and growth in services. This initiative is being spearheaded as a showcase project in conjunction with the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (ASHIP).
Pressing Need for Primary Care Providers and Specialists
"A CEH is crucially important for enhancing patient care management," asserted the head of the emergency department, Ralf Walper. Numerous patients in the emergency department required treatment from family doctors or specialists, however, their lack of availability resulted in their admission to the hospital. "This divert valuable assets often required for genuine emergencies."
Minister of Health Petra Köpping (SPD) commended the hospital administration for dealing with current and forthcoming challenges in a forward-thinking and patient-focused manner during a visit. "This also promotes societal harmony."
In the future, only serious medical crises will be treated at the hospital. The CEH will be linked to an ASHIP duty practice, where preliminary assessments will take place at a "combined station" to ascertain the required treatment and location. The demand for emergency department treatment is predicted to rise due to the dwindling number of primary care providers and an aging population in the Mittelsachsen district, according to the hospital's CEO, Matthias Stolze.
"To ensure the success of this transformation, strict adherence to health and safety regulations is essential during the structural reorganization of the Main Emergency Unit," suggested Matthias Stolze, the hospital's CEO.
"Moreover, the Pediatric Emergency Integration Unit will prioritize health and safety measures to protect both patients and staff, emphasizing the importance of a safe environment in a high-pressure emergency setting."
