Simultaneously, professionals plan to swap out the pillars and arches of the preserved bridge by 2025. About 36,000 bricks will be traded for fresh ones based on old patterns. The bridge maintenance mainly happens during regular operations. The DB typically operates on one track while trains continue on the other. Occasionally, these closures are essential, limiting train activity temporarily.

The Elstertal Bridge was constructed between 1846 and 1851, standing 68 meters high and 270 meters long with its two tiers and imposing central arches. It crosses the White Elster at Jocketa.
