- The economy is not picking up
Regional economic development in Southern Saxony-Anhalt is not gaining momentum, according to the Industry and Commerce Chamber (IHK) Halle-Dessau. For several quarters, there has been a sideways movement, said IHK's economic expert Danny Bieräugel. The business climate index is close to zero at 1.2 points. Positive and negative assessments by companies in the region balance each other out. "Even though the downturn has been stopped in some sectors, there are no impulses for an upswing," said Bieräugel. No sector is truly moving upwards.
Companies reported uncertainties. High energy and raw material prices, skilled labor shortages, and economic policy framework conditions such as excessive bureaucracy were cited as the biggest problems. The economic report is based on a representative sample of IHK member companies in southern Saxony-Anhalt. IHK's CEO Thomas Brockmeier expects the federal government to introduce a comprehensive reform agenda. Above all, changes are needed in energy policy and bureaucracy reduction, but also tangible relief in taxes and levies. However, the federal government's growth initiative is at least a small beacon of hope.
The economic expert Danny Bieraügel highlighted that one of the major challenges faced by companies in southern Saxony-Anhalt is the ['Shortage of skilled workers'], along with high energy and raw material prices, excessive bureaucracy, and other economic policy factors. Despite the federal government's growth initiative, the ['Shortage of skilled workers'] continues to hinder potential momentum in regional economic development.
