The recent Dresden Music Festival saw great success during its 47th edition, with attendance reaching around 65,000 people across its various events. The occupancy rate of 93% signifies a positive response from the audience in response to the introduction of new formats. The event garnered over two million euros in ticket sales, making it the most profitable edition so far.
In his statement, Intendant Jan Vogler noted, "We took many risks and won many things." The festival showcased an impressive range of genres, catering to all types of music lovers. The closing event for the festival was a concert by the Czech Philharmonic led by Jakub Hrusa.
The event spanned from May 9th, featuring a range of styles from Richard Wagner to Sting, the King's Singers, Stacey Kent, and Anoushka Shankar. Notable moments included a performance of Wagner's "Valkyrie" with the Dresden Festival Orchestra and Concerto Köln under the direction of Kent Nagano, and the opening performance of the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam under the baton of Klaus Mäkelä.
Embracing a "Horizons" theme, the festival featured an array of 60 concerts. Music enthusiasts won't have to wait long to experience another edition, as the Dresden Music Festival is slated for May 17th to June 14th, 2025. Prior to the next full festival, a chamber music super trio comprising of violinist Leonidas Kavakos, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and pianist Emanuel Ax is set to perform at Kulturpalast on September 2nd. On September 17th, the Vienna Philharmonic will also perform with Christian Thielemann leading the orchestra.
