- The downward trend of approved construction permits in Hesse persists.
In Hesse, there's been a substantial drop in residential building permits issued within the first half of this year. The State Statistical Office reports a 20.6% decrease compared to the same period last year, with only 6,365 apartments getting the green light. The region is experiencing a serious housing shortage, but the number of permits is on a downward trend, in part due to skyrocketing construction costs. For the entirety of 2023, we saw a 24.2% decline in residential building permits compared to the previous year.
In the first half of 2024, a total of 7,648 residential units were given the go-ahead for construction in Hesse, including renovations of existing properties. These figures come directly from the building control authorities in Hesse.
As per the State Statistical Office.
Despite the housing shortage in Hesse, the number of permits for meadow conversions to residential buildings surprisingly increased by 15% in the first half of 2024. The increased approval of meadow developments might alleviate some of the housing pressures, as reported by the State Statistical Office.
