- The dominant Fürther ruins the comeback of Münster

Cunning SpVgg Greuther Fürth spoils Preußen Münster's return to the 2. Bundesliga after 33 years. The lively Franconians showed the newcomers their limits in the premier duel between the two clubs, winning 3:1 (1:1). Fürth, like last season, won their opening match and provided the 12,664 spectators with the "basic joy" demanded by coach Alexander Zorniger beforehand. Münster, however, lacked creativity in attack.

After new signing Noel Futkeu was sandwiched in the penalty area by Lukas Frenkert and Niko Koulis, the VAR reviewed the controversial scene. Julian Green confidently converted the penalty in the 25th minute.

Fürth's double strike after halftime

Fürth then dominated the field, but Münster showed danger on the counter. Nevertheless, the equalizer by active player Malik Batmaz (41.) after a flat pass from his striking partner Joel Grodowski came somewhat surprisingly.

This was followed by Fürth's dream start to the second half. First, Dennis Srbeny (50.) wasn't shaken off by Münster defender Koulis after a long ball from Philipp Müller. Then, Gideon Jung (55.) headed in after a free kick from captain Branimir Hrgota against an overwhelmed guest defense.

Following their dominance in the second half, SpVgg Greuther Fürth maintained their position in the Football league with two consecutive goals. Despite showing occasional threats on the counter, Preußen Münster struggled to breach Fürth's defense, ultimately failing to salvage a draw.
