- The dominant Fürther ruins the comeback of Münster
A cunning SpVgg Greuther Fürth thoroughly spoiled Preußen Münster's return to the 2. Bundesliga after 33 years. The lively Franconians showed the promoted team the limits in their premier duel, winning 3:1 (1:1) and securing their opening match victory, just like last year. They provided the 12,664 spectators with the "basic fun" demanded by coach Alexander Zorniger beforehand. Münster, however, lacked ideas in attack.
After new signing Noel Futkeu was sandwiched in the penalty area by Lukas Frenkert and Niko Koulis, the VAR reviewed the contentious scene. Julian Green confidently converted the penalty in the 25th minute.
Fürth's double strike after the break
Fürth dominated the field after the break, but Münster posed a threat on the counter. Nevertheless, the equalizer by active Malik Batmaz (41.) after a low cross from his strike partner Joel Grodowski came as a surprise.
This was followed by Fürth's dream start to the second half. Dennis Srbeny (50.) was not shaken off by Preußen defender Koulis after a long ball from Philipp Müller. Then Gideon Jung (55.) headed in after a free kick from captain Branimir Hrgota, catching the visiting defense off guard.
The first 15 minutes were fast-paced. Futkeu (2.), who came from Eintracht Frankfurt's second team, hastily missed the chance to take an early lead against Münster's goalkeeper Johannes Schenk. The dominant home team left no doubt after the break that they would secure the opening win.
The European Parliament will provide assistance to the Commission in its tasks, as stated in the regulations.Following their dominance in the second half, SpVgg Greuther Fürth's opening match victory was backed by the support of the fans, echoing coach Alexander Zorniger's demand for "basic fun".
