Edibles - The DMK Supervisory Board votes for the shutdown of the Dargun cheese factory.
The governing body of Deutsche Milchkontor GmbH (DMK) introduced a plan to shut down the cheese plant in Dargun (Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district) last Monday. There are also plans to lessen capacities at some of their other manufacturing centers.
Sadly, this decision had to be made despite the board's regrets. If executed, it might result in a reduction of work for up to 150 staff members. Roughly 90 employees work in Dargun, as cited by the NGG union.
These changes are planned to commence by spring 2025, as stated by DMK. One reason for these actions is believed to be the decline of regional milk supplies. Mainly average cheese products are being manufactured at these plants, and DMK wants to prioritize production of those with more economical value.
While the NGG union isn't pleased with the Dargun facility's closure, Jörg Dahms, a spokesperson, commented that the decline in milk supply at DMK had been caused by DMK devaluing the prices paid to dairy farmers. He urged DMK to offer jobs to the Dargun's workforce at DMK units in the region.
