For the past few days, fire departments in the Bodenseekreis region have been racing to attend to over 643 emergency calls, mainly resulting from flooded basements and uprooted trees. Over 1200 first responders took part in these efforts. The primary focus remained in the areas of Meckenbeuren, where the regions of Kehlen and Brochenzell had been heavily affected. A school facility and its adjoining sports field were in dire need of drying, with the hope of resuming classes within the week, despite some restrictions. Additional emergency services were being provided in the meantime.
In the previous 48 hours, the Schussen River had significantly flooded Kehlen and Brochenzell, leading to many residents being forced to abandon their homes, with roughly 1300 people looking for safety on Saturday. The water levels soared beyond 4.86 meters on Saturday evening, flooding rivers that are typically only 45 centimeters deep, a phenomenon never seen before.
