- The dementia strategy and dementia plan for Saxony adopted
Approximately 103,000 individuals diagnosed with dementia in Saxony are to be enabled to lead a self-determined and dignified life. The cabinet adopted a Saxon Dementia Strategy and the Saxon Dementia Plan, which were developed with the involvement of administration, professional care, civil society, health and care insurance companies, as well as those affected and their relatives. Both are intended to serve as a guideline and action concept to tackle the challenges of dealing with dementia and to sustainably improve the living conditions for those affected, according to the Ministry of Social Affairs.
"To courageously face dementia, a positive interaction of all societal, professional, and voluntary forces is important," said Minister of Social Affairs Petra Köpping (SPD). This interaction requires expert information, sound advice, and assistance. With the Saxon Dementia Strategy, "an important step towards a dementia-friendly society" has been taken.
Expansion of Support Services
It is intended to contribute to the expansion of consulting, care, and supply services in the Free State in a meaningful way and to increase awareness of the needs of those affected. To improve the situation of caring relatives, it provides for more and specialized offers for relief and advice. In addition, those with dementia are to be medically and nursing-wise better cared for, as they deserve individual care that meets their needs.
According to the announcement, Saxony, along with Saxony-Anhalt, has the highest proportion of people with dementia in Germany, at 2.5 percent each, and is expected to become the oldest federal state with an increase in corresponding diseases by 2030.
The Saxon Dementia Strategy, adopted by the cabinet, aims to improve the medical and nursing care for individuals with dementia, ensuring they receive individualized care that meets their needs. Furthermore, the strategy aims to expand support services, offering more relief and advice for caring relatives.
