Voting Process - The deadline for mail-in voting in the European elections is fast approaching.

There are just a few days left to submit your mail-in ballots for the European election taking place this Sunday (9th June). Electoral Commissioner Monika Wissmann encourages mail-in voters to send their envelopes as soon as possible on Tuesday. To be considered during the counting process, ballots need to reach the municipalities by 6 pm on Sunday. Therefore, mail the ballots by Wednesday, Wissmann advised.

People who haven't sent their ballots in time can still hand-deliver them to their home municipality by Sunday at 6 pm. Additionally, those wishing to vote by mail can request the necessary documents from their local election office until Friday at 6 pm. The election office will instantly provide the documents, and the mail-in voting can be completed on the spot.

Wissmann once again elaborated on the mail-in voting process: Only the filled-out ballot paper goes into the white ballot envelope. After sealing the white envelope, it along with the personally signed voting slip is placed in the red mail-in voting envelope. In the federal territory, sending the red mail-in voting envelope back to the election office through Deutsche Post is free of charge.

An astonishing 13.8 million people in North Rhine-Westphalia are eligible to vote in the European election. This year, 16- and 17-year-olds are included in the democratic process for the first time, comprising approximately 305,000 young people.
