- The cultural ship "Stubnitz" later at the city port of Stralsund
The roughly 60-year-old cultural ship "Stubnitz" will arrive at the Stralsund city harbor later than planned. The ship lift at the Volkswerft Stralsund is not functioning, according to a statement from the Hanseatic city.
The lift is needed to hoist ships onto land and return them to the water after repairs. The cultural ship is currently on the repair slipway at the Volkswerft. The cultural program of events such as concerts and readings on the "Stubnitz" was originally scheduled to start on Thursday, a spokesperson said.
Experts are working to make the lift operational again so that the "Stubnitz" can be launched back into the water. The repair of the former refrigerated and transport ship of the DDR's high seas fishing fleet has been completed on time and successfully. The ship will receive a new "ship TÜV," with the final acceptance still pending. After that, it can directly head to the city harbor, where events are planned until August 9.
The lift at Volkswerft Stralsund, where shipbuilding and repairs are often carried out, is crucial for launching the "Stubnitz" back into the water. Unfortunately, its current non-functioning status has delayed the cultural ship's arrival at the city harbor.
